Engraving is now available on every pewter gift at Rich Gifts — add a name, date or short message for a flat £6 fee. Here's how it works and what to say.
A pewter tankard, quaich or flask is already a thoughtful gift. Add a name, a date or a few words and it becomes something the recipient will keep for good — the kind of present that ends up on a shelf rather than in a drawer.
How engraving works on our site
Every product page now has an Engraving option. Switch it to 'Yes' and a flat £6 fee is added — no matter how much text you add or which product you choose. You can then add up to three lines of text, 25 characters each, and choose from four fonts: Helvetica, Times, Script or Roman. Whatever you type is exactly what gets engraved, so it's worth double-checking spelling and dates before adding to cart.
What to engrave
There's no fixed formula, but a few patterns work well:
For weddings: both names and the wedding date, or a short line like 'Together Always'.
For christenings: the child's name and date of birth.
For retirements: a name, years of service, or 'Happy Retirement'.
For anniversaries: the couple's names and the anniversary date.
For awards and presentations: the recipient's name, the event, and the year.
Short and simple tends to look best — with a 25 character limit per line, initials and dates often read more elegantly than a full sentence squeezed in.
Which font to choose
Helvetica gives a clean, modern finish that suits most gifts. Times reads as more traditional and formal. Script has a flowing, handwritten feel that works well for weddings and anniversaries. Roman sits somewhere between the two — classic without being plain. If you're unsure, Helvetica is the safest all-round choice.
